    Religion...why?

Post by blizen on Sat Apr 18, 2009 5:09 pm

So i'v been thinking, no one in my family wants to be serious and tell me the real reason for religion and we have a few serious people here on these forums..so yea

basically "whats the point of religion!Am i the only one who sees it as a waste of everything?"

Religion is what people believe in, I guess. Like gods and goddesses, and all that. A point of view on who or what created us, the world, everything...But I've never known the real definition myself...So whatever.

It could play a huge part in one's life, while in another might not give a damn about the whole topic in general. It's not a waste, but it's not completely useful, I suppose.

Well, it's what you believe really happens/happened.

When you die? How the world was made? How things happen?
    Fate? God? Science?
You just get curious about these things. And you start to believe in a certain thing.

Religion came to be when people didn't understand science, so they just thought gods/goddesses controlled what they couldn't explain.

    thats so freakin true michelle

not everyone wants to beleive science so what do they turn to, if not there own ignorant beliefs then the fictional character they call god, jesus, etc.

so lets say there was an earthquake, most people know the scientific way but when u tell thos believers they say "it was god will"...WTF? why the hell would the same god who people believe will save them from all things harmful cause somthing so destructive Question

Yeah, I find it sort of silly when people do that too...
But science can't really explain what happens when you die.
Yes yes, your heart stops, you black out... Then what?

    Nothing, that's what'd happen.

Religion is there to keep people morally correct.

Most religion's teach you to be a good person, work hard, and basically do the best that you can do.
Some with sugar, and some with vinegar-

So when it comes to death, they don't want you thinking "nothing" will happen afterwards, they want you to think that you will be rewarded- or even punished, for your deeds or sins you have done during life.

But all in all, you just die, nothing in THIS life will have any effect on you after that-

though some also teach you narrow ideas like homosexuals should be stoned to death and the same goes for children who dont respect their elders.

I meant that's how it first began, with people just getting curious...
But yes, that most certainly is the normal case.

    I quote Liliy.

    Exactly!
Nobody knows if you get reincarnated {Which I actually believe will happen... Or, hope happens}.
Or turn into a ghost {I doubt that very highly}.
Or go to heaven/hell {I don't want to go to either places}.
Or... Just... Nothing happens. {Something I fear will happen}.

In fact, sometimes I have nightmares that you can still think and feel and imagine but you can't move any part of your body and are stuck that way for eternity. A scary thought, very scary...

    i also wonder about this
when people say they are "praying",do they even know what they're doing.
from this angle it just looks like they're talking to themselves...

"the passion of the christ" has to be the greatest of all lies ever told!
how the hell is a persons death written as a "passion"??

You know, I was in Manhattan the other day, and someone was wearing a hoodie that said "Believe!" and he was telling a crowd of about 10 people about how Christ was our savior and stuff.
I'm not Christian. I don't understand this stuff.

Remember that creepy lady that prowls your streets and gives us a speech about "Jesus and believing or you'll go to hell" whenever she sees us outside?

No, you don't have to believe.
She said they THEY believe in it.
You don't have to... think whatever you want of the world.

Because they can and it's free.
